How To Use A Curling Wand On A Straight Wig or Straight Bundles
Let's go over how to use a curling wand on a straight wig. When I usually curl the hair on my wigs the curls last for a few days so definitely use these tips I mentioned in order to get nice fluffy curls.
Preparation
Before you start curling your hair extensions it is important to start on freshly washed and conditioned hair. If your hair hasn’t been washed yet you will have built up over time. That build up will make it hard for your hair to hold a curl and will weight it down. You want to start curling tour hair on a clean slate.
Tools You’ll Need
Let's just focus on how to get these beautiful curls that you see in the video above. First thing you want to do is make sure you have an antistatic carbon comb on hand. A carbon comb can help with flyways while you're combing the hair in sections to straighten it out before you curl.
The curling want that I currently use is from TYCHE. It is about 1” thick. So just remember if you want tighter curls get a wand smaller in diameter and if you want bigger curls then definitely get a bigger wand. A lot of different curling wands usually have an off and on button but if you do get a wand that has a temperature, try not to go higher than 350 degrees when curling your hair. You don’t want to damage your hair by adding too much heat. Also, it is helpful to have clips to get the hair up and out of the way while you're curling in small sections.
When you start curling the hair it is also a good idea to lightly spray each row you finish curling with holding spray to set the curl place. But you want to do this very lightly since you don’t want the hair to get stiff. You still want your hair to have bounce and curl to it. I recommend using Garnier Fructis Holding Spray for a flexible curl.
Technique to Use
So the first thing you will want to do is remember to wear the glove provided on the opposite hand that you are holding the curling wand. You don’t want to burn your fingers with the wand since you will have to bring the ends of the hair very close to touch the wand. So, remember safety first!! Now you want to take small to medium size sections and comb it out with your comb. Remember to use your clips to get all the extra hair out of the way.
First you want to get the wand as close to the root as possible of the section of hair you are about to curl.
Now before you start wrapping the hair around the wand you want to take your section of hair and twist it in one direction. Keep twisting the hair as you wrap the hair around the wand. You can see in the video above how I was able to wrap and twist the hair. While you get to the end of the hair strand you want the hair to be wrapped around the wand as close as possible. Also curls the ends of the wand as close as you can on the wand so that you have a curl all the way to the end.
Once the section of hair is curled on the wand hold the curl for at least 10-15 sections. Once you release the curl hold the curl in place in the palm of your hand for about 10-15 seconds more. This extra step can help hold your curls in place even more.
Curling your wig
Now if you are curling your wig, I recommend parting out your hair around the hairline of your wig if it is a lace front wig or a closure or full lace wig so that it would be easier to create baby hairs once you glue down the lace around your hairline. I also recommend placing your wig at night on a wig stand or using bobby pins at night to pin curl your hair in small to medium sections in order to make the curls last over a couple of days.
So if you follow these tips and also watch the video above you will be able to create beautiful fluffy curls at home that will last.
I hope these tips help!
